Moscow. May 17, 2019. Over the past week the electricity consumption fell in the European Part of Russia and Ural and grew in Siberia. Since the start of 2019 and compared to the same period last year the accrued overall electricity consumption fell in both market price zones.
The average weekly indices of equilibrium prices compared to last week were lower in the European Part of Russia and Ural and higher in Siberia. Since the start of 2019 and compared to the same period last year the average price indices were higher in both market price zones.
The total electricity consumption of the day-ahead market over the past week amounted to 16.60 million MWh. In the European Part of Russia and Ural the electricity consumption fell by 1% since last week and totaled 12.99 million MWh. The total electricity consumption in the European Part of Russia and Ural since the start of the year was 0.4% lower than that of the same period last year. The electricity consumption in Siberia grew by 0.3% since last week and totaled 3.61 million MWh. Compared to the same period last year, the electricity consumption in Siberia fell by 0.1% since the start of the year.
The past week the thermal production share in the generation mix of the European Part of Russia and Ural fell by 4 percentage points compared to last week and by 6.7 percentage points to the average figure since the start of the year 2019. In Siberia, the thermal production share fell by 0.3 percentage point compared to last week level and by 6.3 percentage points - since the start of the year 2019.
In the European Part of Russia and Ural thermal power plants accounted for 61.52% of electricity production, hydro, nuclear and renewable energy power plants – 12.82%, 25.39% and 0,28% respectively. In Siberia, the generation mix was as follows: thermal – 50.10%, hydro – 49.83%, renewables – 0,07%.
Since last week, the equilibrium price indices in the European Part of Russia and Ural fell by 0.5% and amounted to 1 261.0 rubles/MWh (the weighted average equilibrium price index since the start of the year grew by 10.1% compared to the same period last year). In Siberia, the index grew by 10.4% compared to last week’s figures and amounted to 1 101.3 rubles/MWh (the weighted average equilibrium price index grew by 12.6 % since the start of the year - compared to the same period last year).
As of May 14, 2019 the total debts of market participants amounted to 75.7 billion rubles having fallen by 3.4 billion rubles since May 1, 2019. Debts in price zones amounted to 75.63 billion rubles, while debts in non-price zones totaled 0.06 billion rubles.
