Results of Wholesale Electricity and Capacity Market Operation from 24.04.2020 to 30.04.2020

Moscow May 1st, 2020. Over the past week the electricity consumption fell in both market price zones. Since the start of 2020 and compared to the same period last year the accrued overall electricity consumption also fell in both market price zones.

The average weekly indices of equilibrium prices compared to last week were lower European Part of Russia and Ural and higher in Siberia. Since the start of 2020 and compared to the same period last year the average price indices were lower in both market price zones.

The total planned electricity consumption on the day-ahead market over the past week amounted to 17.18 million MWh. In the European part of the Russia and Ural, the planned electricity consumption amounted to 13.73 million MWh, a decrease of 2.2% compared to last week. The total volume of planned consumption in the European part of the Russia and Ural since the beginning of the year compared to the same period last year decreased by 2.2%. In Siberia, the planned electricity consumption was 3.45 million MWh, a decrease of 5.2% compared to last week. The total planned consumption in Siberia since the beginning of the year compared to the same period last year decreased by 1.4%.

Over the past week the thermal production share in the generation mix of the European Part of Russia and Ural decreased by 0.6 percentage points and decreased by 5.1 percentage points relative to the average since the beginning of the year. In Siberia, the share of thermal power plants relative to the previous week was lower by 0.1 percentage points and was 6.4 percentage points lower than the average since the beginning of the year.

In the European Part of Russia and Ural thermal power plants accounted for 60.33% of production, while hydroelectric power plants, nuclear power plants and renewable energy sources accounted for 12.46%, 26.75% and 0.46%, respectively. In Siberia, the generation structure was formed as follows: thermal - 44.41%, hydro - 55.32%, renewables - 0.27%.

Since last week, the equilibrium price indices in the European Part of Russia and Ural decreased by 4.5% and amounted to 1,143.5 rubles / MWh (the weighted average equilibrium price index for the period from the beginning of the year decreased by 8.6% compared to the same last year period). In Siberia the index increased by 2.7% to 925.8 rubles / MWh (the weighted average equilibrium price index for the period from the beginning of the year decreased by 11.9% compared to the same period last year).

As of April 28, 2020, the total debt of market participants amounted to 70.788 billion rubles, including debt in price zones amounted to 70.769 billion rubles, in non-price zones - 0.020 billion rubles.
